The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Mohammed Abdullahi Korimi before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N25.6 million fraud.

Korimi was arraigned on Thursday, 16 April 2026, on two counts bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining by false pretence, involving N25,647,000.

According to the EFCC, the defendant, in July 2025, allegedly obtained 400 bags of beans valued at N25,647,000 from one Maina Hassan Madube under the pretence of supplying the goods to customers in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, with a promise to pay within one week. The commission stated that the representation was false.

The offence is said to contravene Section 1(1) and is punishable under Section 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

The EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday, 18 April 2026, that the defendant pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

Prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant to a correctional facility pending trial.

Justice Kumaliya subsequently adjourned the case to 22 April 2026 for the hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility.

The EFCC said the case stemmed from allegations that the defendant fraudulently obtained the consignment of beans for purported supply to a customer in Sango-Ota.
