The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old woman, Goodnews ‘F’, from Ikot Etetuk Village, for allegedly stealing a baby.

It was learnt that on 26 February 2026 at about 8:28 am, a woman identified as Peace ‘F’, accompanied by her mother, reported to the police that her two-month-and-three-week-old baby boy had been abducted.

DSP Timfon John, Police Public Relations Officer, on Saturday, said preliminary investigations revealed that at about 5:59 am the same day, the child’s mother had briefly left the infant in the care of her own mother.

When she returned at about 6:30 am, she was informed that the grandmother had left the baby asleep on the bed while she went to bathe. However, upon returning to the room, the infant was missing.

“Investigations led to the arrest of a 23-year-old woman, Goodnews ‘F’, from Ikot Etetuk Village, who allegedly cut through the window netting and made away with the baby.

“A swift search operation in the surrounding area resulted in the suspect’s arrest while she was still in possession of the infant. The baby was rescued unharmed,” John said.

The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.

He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent similar incidents.
