Senator Ita Enang has arrived in Berlin to begin his assignment as Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Federal Republic of Germany, pledging to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Enang, who holds an LLD, is also an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR), and was accompanied by his wife, Dr Rosemary Ita Enang. He was received at the airport by a delegation comprising officials of the German Foreign Ministry, the Ambassador of Rwanda to Germany, representing the African Group of Ambassadors in Berlin, and senior officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Germany.

The Ambassador-Designate was later honoured at a reception hosted by embassy staff and members of the Nigerian community in Germany at the historic Hotel Bristol in Berlin.

In a statement issued upon his arrival on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, Enang expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the confidence reposed in him through the appointment.

He also expressed appreciation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar; the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; and the directors and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their invaluable support and guidance throughout the process leading to his deployment, alongside other ambassadorial appointees.

“As I settle down to work, I pray for grace upon grace for our colleagues still awaiting deployment, and that God will grant them divine speed,” he said.

Enang, a former senator who represented Akwa Ibom North-East Senatorial District and a former Senior Special Assistant to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, said he is committed to advancing Nigeria’s interests and strengthening cooperation with Germany in key areas, including trade, investment, education, technology, culture and economic development.

He is expected to formally assume office after presenting his Letters of Credence to the German President, in accordance with diplomatic protocol. His appointment is expected to further enhance diplomatic, economic and cultural relations between Nigeria and Germany, one of Europe’s leading economies and an important development partner of Nigeria.
