Police arrest suspect over false security alert
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raised concerns over the activities of individuals using social media platforms to circulate false, misleading and provocative security-related messages aimed at creating fear, panic and unnecessary apprehension among residents.
The command assured residents of Akwa Ibom State that there is no cause for alarm, stressing that the security situation across the state remains calm, stable and under control.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raised concerns over the activities of individuals using social media platforms to circulate false, misleading and provocative security-related messages aimed at creating fear, panic and unnecessary apprehension among residents.
The command assured residents of Akwa Ibom State that there is no cause for alarm, stressing that the security situation across the state remains calm, stable and under control.
It added that the police and other security agencies remain vigilant and are deploying proactive measures to safeguard lives and property.
In line with its commitment to maintaining public peace and order, the command said it had arrested a suspect, identified as Akaninyene Udo, a resident of Akpautong in Esit Eket Local Government Area, who operates on social media under the name “AK Philo”.
According to the police, the suspect was arrested following investigations into a viral social media post in which he allegedly shared a threatening message stating, “Eket get ready for us,” accompanied by an image of an armed bandit. The post reportedly generated fear and widespread concern among residents of Eket and surrounding communities.
The command disclosed that investigations had been concluded and that the suspect would soon be charged in court in accordance with the law. It added that efforts were ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals who may have collaborated in disseminating the false and inciting content.
The police warned members of the public against creating, publishing or sharing unverified security alerts, fake news and other misleading information capable of disturbing public peace, stressing that such actions constitute criminal offences.
“Offenders will be traced, arrested and prosecuted,” the statement said.
Residents were advised to verify security-related information through official channels and credible sources before sharing or acting on such reports.
The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining peace, security and stability across the state and urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities or genuine security concerns to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
“Together, we will continue to keep Akwa Ibom State safe and secure,” the statement added.
