A woman and her two daughters reportedly died in a road crash on Sunday, December 26, 2021, on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway.
Traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps showed that the accident happened at Old MRS filling station, Itako, in the Ijebu Ife area.
The Public Relations Officer, TRACE, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi said the driver of the Ford SUV with number plate AKD 311 HH in which the late woman and children were travelling, over speed, leading to her losing control of the vehicle which rammed it into a stationary Dangote truck with number plate WW 630 XA.
He added that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at a private morgue in Ijebu Ife.
Akinbiyi noted that according to an eyewitness account, the ill-fated SUV was on its way from Lagos to the Eastern part of the country.
He said, “It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle was driving the late woman and her two daughters to the East on holidays when the unfortunate crash happened.
“The husband of the woman stays overseas, and the driver was employed as the family driver.
“However, the accident vehicles have been taken to Ijebu-Ife Divisional Police Station for further investigation.”
While the TRACE Corps commiserated with the family of the deceased, it warned drivers to eschew speeding and dangerous driving, particularly during this harmattan season, when there’s so much dust haze in the atmosphere, in view of its attendant consequences.
