Stakeholders and political leaders in Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have unanimously endorsed Dr Eunice Thomas as their preferred candidate for the Eket Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was reached during a high-level consultation meeting on Tuesday, 14 April 2026, at the residence of the area’s political leader, Mr Benjamin Udobia.

Speaking at the gathering, the Executive Chairman of Esit Eket Local Government Council, Mrs Uduak Ikemesit Ikott, described Dr Thomas as “God-sent for a time like this”, expressing strong confidence in her candidacy and emphasising both divine backing and widespread grassroots support.

“Dr Thomas is God-sent for a time like this, and I am confident that the God who has sent her will stand by her till the end.

“For Esit Eket, Mma, you are safe, welcome and fully accepted,” Ikott said.

Also addressing the meeting, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Bassey Dan Abia (a lawyer), noted that true political consensus is reflected in unity among the people.

A unanimous voice vote of the stakeholders subsequently sealed the endorsement.

“A people united in purpose will always make their position clear. The resounding ‘yes’ from the voice vote demonstrates overwhelming acceptance of Dr Eunice Thomas’s candidacy,” Abia stated.

Earlier, Thomas expressed gratitude to the people of Esit Eket for their consistent support throughout her political journey, noting that their backing had been evident from the outset.

“I am here to say, thank you. Since the beginning of this journey, I have enjoyed immense support from Esit Eket.

“I do not need your support; I know I already have it. What I seek now is the support of those who are yet to stand with me,” Thomas noted.

She framed her ambition within a spiritual context, expressing confidence in divine guidance and her readiness to deliver impactful representation.

“This federal constituency is of special interest to God. In this season, God has chosen me, and through me, He will prosper us in the next three and a half years. I am fully prepared for this responsibility,” she added.

Providing historical and political context, her husband, Hon. Sam Ekpenyong, highlighted the tradition of rotational representation within the constituency, advocating fairness and inclusivity among the constituent local government areas.

“Representation in this federal constituency has, over time, reflected a fair spread. Leaders such as Eseme Eyibo, Dan Abia, Ekpottai and Pat Ifon have all served four years. Ibeno cannot be an exception, and ensuring inclusivity will not be a problem,” he said.

The meeting concluded with prayers led by the political leader, Elder Benjamin Udobia, and a cleric, Pastor John John, signalling a coordinated political front in support of Dr Thomas’s aspiration.

Among those present were a member of the State House of Assembly, the council chairman, Hon. Ikemesit Ikott, Mr Udobia Udo (an engineer), the vice-chairman, Mr Eddy Etangnkanga, party officials, aides to the governor, and ward and chapter executives of the APC, among others.
