A 17-year-old boy has committed suicide after his fellow classmate refused to sleep with him.
According to vanguard, the unfortunate incident reportedly happened in Hammanskraal at the Dominican School for the Deaf.
Gauteng education spokesman, Steve Mabona, said the pupil hung himself after a love quarrel with a 17-year-old girl pupil from the same school.
“The boy had allegedly left other pupils at the dining hall and went to the junior hostel, where he took his life,” he said.
Mabona then said that his body was found by fellow pupils, who allegedly untied him and let him down before calling for help. Paramedics arrived within 10 minutes, but he was declared dead on the scene.
“It is very unfortunate that a pupil took his life. This is a very sensitive issue to which we firstly wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family of the pupil. We also wish to convey our sympathy to the school population for this loss,” said Mabona.
A teacher at the school also said that the boy was very intelligent and was in Grade 12. According to the teacher, he had asked his girlfriend, a fellow classmate, to be sexually intimate with him in the classroom, and she refused.
“When we asked the girl what had happened, she said he had asked her to have sex with him in their class after lessons, but she turned down the request,” said the teacher who requested to remain anonymous as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
