Wike disagrees with INEC over polling unit results

The National Chairman of the Edo State Campaign Council of the People’s Democratic Party and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has disagreed with the Independent National Electoral Commission over polling unit results.
Expressing his doubt over the unit results on Saturday, Wike stated that the polling unit results which had been so far gathered were about 2,000 against 700 that INEC had released. He added that the under declared polling unit results called for concern.
Wike said this during an interview in the Edo 2020 Situation Room streamed on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s Youtube Channel and monitored by some journalists.
“We have results from about 2,000 polling units from the various wards and from the intelligence we have gathered, I do believe that INEC will keep to that promise of being transparent.
“Again, as we speak, they ought to have moved to the ward collation centres before they move to the local government collation centres. But we cannot find the security personnel around the ward collation centres and that gives us concern.
“Why is it that the security personnel are not at the ward collation centres? So, I urge the Inspector-General of Police to move his men to the ward collation centres.
“They must not allow miscreants to disrupt the electoral process. I believe that the commission will continue with what they have done,” Wike said.
According to him, they do not want the election to be inconclusive, adding that the polling unit results are the critical stage where people will start seeing disruptions and thereafter the election declared inconclusive.
He urged INEC to fulfil its promise that the Edo 2020 election will be transparent. He added, “We don’t want to hear inconclusive.”
In the Situation Room with Wike were the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
They stated that the people’s votes must count and expressed surprise that the PDP got polling unit results faster than the electoral umpire
