The University of Uyo has matriculated 14,520 students for the 2024/2025 academic session, just as it warned them against cultism.

Speaking on Friday in Uyo during the matriculation ceremony, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Nyaudoh Ndaeyo stated that the matriculating full time students were 11,416 ; post graduate 1,574, and 1,530 from the school of continuing education and professional studies.

Prof Ndaeyo stated that the management of the institution has an open door policy that would listen to the academic issues affecting the students, and urged them to submit to constituted authority, shun cultism, obey, uphold and promote the noble ideals, principles and values of the university.

The VC stated that the institution has made facilities and resources within its capacity available to the students for a successful study in their chosen fields, adding that the Teritary Institutions and Social Health Insurance Programme (TISHIP) was available for their benefit.

“The Management of the University of Uyo maintains an open door policy in the sense that it is prepared to listen and dialogue on all issues affecting you and your academics.

“For such purposes, there is an established line of communication with the administration as you were informed during your orientation.

“In case you want to communicate with the Management of the University, you are required to forward your request through your Head of Department, your Dean of Faculty and Dean of Students to the Vice-Chancellor.

“Note that all problems can be resolved amicably without resulting to conflict. Academic work requires peace and order. Crisis leads to loss in property, time and even life; crisis may keep you on the programme longer than necessary. So be mindful of what you do.

“I urge you therefore to make the best use of this golden opportunity by spending your time wisely and making your academic endeavour your focus.

“The degrees of the University of Uyo are only awarded to deserving students who are found to be worthy both in character and learning. What this means is that, in addition to achieving academically excellence, you must exhibit exemplary character that befits your new status in life.

“There have been cases of students who make excellent grades in their academics but who have had their certificates withheld for various reasons of misbehaviour.

“It is therefore in your own best interest to shun all activities that would be detrimental to your stay in this university as a student, for instance, avoid cultism and examination misconduct.

“University of Uyo as a brand, has stringent policy for fraudulent behaviour. I hereby remind you that all documents and presentations you have made during the screening exercise for your admission are the same documents that would be used to screen you for graduation.

“Therefore, any attempt to alter anything in them will have criminal implications and would be considered as a breach of today’s matriculation oath,” the VC stated.
