Tanko Muhammad resigns as CJN on health grounds

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Tanko Muhammad, has resigned, according to Channels Television.

The station quoted some sources as saying that the CJN resigned on Sunday night, citing ill-health as the reason for his decision.

According to Channels Television, the arrangements are ongoing to swear in the next most senior justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Olukayode in an acting capacity.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola will be inaugurated on Monday, June 27, 2022, to replace Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed, who resigned his position as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, on health grounds.

This was confirmed by Ahuraka Yusuf Isah, the Media Aide to the immediate past CJN.

He also confirmed the resignation of his Principal, Justice Ibrahim Tanko.
