Senator Ita Enang, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, has commended the peaceful conduct of the party’s aspirants in the ongoing primaries.

Enang said party leaders had remained united in supporting candidates contesting for the House of Representatives, Senate, House of Assembly and governorship positions.

He stated this on Monday while speaking with journalists on the ongoing APC primaries across the country.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Germany said party leaders had met to produce candidates acceptable to the electorate and to ensure victory in the forthcoming general elections.

According to him, given the uncertainties surrounding other political parties in the country, the APC would not take chances but would instead prioritise peace and make necessary concessions to present widely acceptable candidates.

“There is no division in the party, and we have no bitterness after the nominations. We can garner votes for the APC, President Bola Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and all our candidates for the House of Representatives, Senate and House of Assembly.

“We are also able to maintain the leadership of the APC in the state, such that we can secure at least 95 per cent of the votes in the state to ensure victory for our candidates.

“We have seen the state of uncertainty in other political parties, and we do not have to take anything for granted.

“Our party leaders have decided that we will make concessions and maintain the understanding that was reached before the PDP agreed to join us.

“So, we have kept our own part of the agreement, and we believe the PDP will keep its own part of the agreement,” Enang said.

He further praised the peaceful conduct of the House of Representatives primaries across the state and urged party faithful to sustain the same spirit.

Enang also expressed confidence that the Akwa Ibom APC would deliver more than 95 per cent of votes to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections to enable him to continue his economic reforms.

Meanwhile, Mr Edidiong Ekong, one of the APC aspirants for the Ibiono Ibom/Itu Federal Constituency, who stepped down for the consensus candidate, said. However, the decision was painful; he chose to remain loyal to the party leadership.

Ekong said that as a party loyalist and sportsman, he believed in the supremacy of the party above personal ambition.

“It is a painful decision, but my loyalty is to the leaders of my party, who approached me and said we have to go into the election with a united front.

“I am a party man, a sportsman, and I have a large heart, so I place the party above my personal ambition,” he said.
