Police operatives arrest suspected cultists, recover gun, live cartridges in Delta
Police operatives attached to the Quick Response Squad (QRS) of the Delta State Police Command, have arrested three suspected cultists with a locally made cut-to-size gun and four live cartridges.
The three suspects are Chukwuma Owoh (26), Ediri Ogendengbe (32), and Alfred Kess (38).
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Bright Edafe, said the arrest was made on Friday, August 5, 2022, around 1:45 pm when the operatives were on stop-and-search duty along Pessu corner in Warri and intercepted a tricycle with three occupants.
Edafe explained that when the tricycle occupants were searched, the gun and the live cartridges were recovered from them, leading to their arrest.
He said: “One of the suspects, Chukwuma Owoh, confessed that he bought the gun from one Haruna of Hausa Market, Warri and that he was on his way to Pessu in search of some Aiye Confraternity cult members that attacked his younger sister. The suspects are currently in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Ari Muhammed Ali who commended the arrest, urged officers and men of the command to sustain the tempo.
He also admonished them to be polite and civil to members of the public while on duty, as incivility would not be tolerated under his watch.
