The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery suspect and recovered items allegedly stolen from a victim at gunpoint.
The suspect, identified as Wisdom Edet, was arrested on 21 August 2026 during a stop-and-search operation along the Mbak Itam area of the state.
Police operatives intercepted a tricycle, marked PBT 322 QN, being driven by Edet, with two passengers on board. The occupants reportedly refused to stop when flagged down and sped away, prompting the officers to give chase.
During the pursuit, the two passengers allegedly jumped from the moving tricycle and escaped into the surrounding area, while the rider was apprehended.
A search of the tricycle led to the recovery of an HP laptop, a PS4 game console, a torchlight, two face caps, a power bank, a key wallet holder, a pair of black eyeglasses, two phone chargers, a white long-sleeved shirt, a nose mask and a long-sleeved denim jacket.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, a man identified as Samuel reported at the station at about 10 am on the same day and positively identified the laptop and PS4 console as his property.

Samuel told the police that the items had allegedly been stolen from him during an armed robbery. He also identified some of the recovered clothing as similar to those worn by the suspected robbers during the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state.
John said the command would sustain intelligence-led operations, surveillance and targeted stop-and-search activities to disrupt criminal networks.
She urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information about suspicious persons or activities, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
