Dr Sam Omgbuku, Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and former Bayelsa First Lady, Alanyingi Sylva were among the recipients of the 2023 Sylva Entertainment Award.
Also honoured were former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Sen. Biobarakumo Degi, former Rep. Preye Oseke, and Bayelsa All Progressive Party Chairman, Dennis Otiotio amongst others.
The Sylva Entertainment Annual Award ceremony took place on Friday, at Tamara event centre Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital.
Others who received the Award of the Year are Mrs Gloria Izonfuo of the National Population Commision, Prof. Ongoebi Etebo, Thelma Ibegu, Inetimi Odon Timaya, Asu Ekiye, Desire Nsirim former Commissioner of Police.
The other awardees are Ini Golden, Hon. Michael Olumo, Pastor Reuben Clifford, Chief Preye Agama, Mr Ebi Egbe, Senibo Oginiba, Victor Binawari, Helen Bob, Dame Julie Okah-Donli Mr Tonye Okio and Hon. Tonbra Ekiotene.
According to the organisers, the annual award aims to recognise all those who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their areas of endeavours.
The awards categories include public service, music, performing arts, afrobeat, content creation, and studio presentations.
Other categories are radio presentation in both male and female segments, Disc Jockeying, entrepreneurship, good governance, human capital development, philanthropy, and outstanding, humanitarian service amongst others.
On his part, the member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 4, in the Bayelsa House of Assembly Hon. Victor Ben, commended the organisers of the event for the initiative.
He said that Bayelsa has the finest artists in the entertainment industry that are making waves worldwide.
Ben, said former Governor Timipre Sylva, during his tenure as Governor in Bayelsa the Bayelsa was doing well in the entertainment industry.
He explained that entertainment has become dominant and rules the world today and that Bayelsa youths are multi-talented in whatever they do.
He said that the All Progressive Congress APC is ready to take over the state come November 11, 2023.
On her part, the former first lady, Mrs Alanyingi Sylva, said that the award means so much to her, as she has contributed to the development of her environment.
She said it is always comforting when one receives the award speaks volumes and is an indication that more is expected of the person.
The former first lady urged young people to always aspire for the best so as to be recognized in their various endeavours in life.
In her part, the Director General Sylva Entertainers Annual Award, Okah-Donli, said that honouring and recognising outstanding people who contribute positively in their field would reinforce their desire to do more.
She said that the awards will spur young people to aspire to greater accomplishments as awards are for those who have distinguished themselves from others.
