Nigerian 23, bags PhD in US university

A 23-year-old Nigerian, Emmanuel Ebube Okogbue, has successfully defended his PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Nano Electronics Option) on Friday, April 9, 2021 at the University of Central Florida at Orlando, Florida, USA.

Okogbue, an alumnus of the Federal University of Technology Akure, FUTA, graduated in 2017 with a BTech in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Second Class Upper Division (2:1) with a CGPA of 4.48.

He was said to have spent four of the five years undergraduate degree programme in FUTA and spent his final year in the USA.

He benefited from the collaboration between FUTA and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Tallahassee, Florida.

The arrangement was said to have enabled him to conclude the final year of his undergraduate degree programme at FAMU in the 2016/2017 session. He earned a FUTA degree in accordance with the principles of collaboration.

After his degree program, Okogbue enrolled for his PhD in August 2017 having qualified to do so through his sterling performance during his stay in FAMU.

Okogbue was admitted into PhD with the first degree though he was awarded master’s degree after some course work and a few publications.

Before his PhD defence, he published 13 journals and won several awards.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Fuwape, congratulated Okogbue.

He described the feat as another testimony to the excellence of FUTA and its products saying FUTA graduates can hold their own anywhere in the world.
