NOA sensitises Akwa Ibom on tax reforms, HIV, others

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has carried out a sensitisation campaign in Akwa Ibom State to educate the public on the ongoing tax reforms, HIV menace, security consciousness and other vital issues.

Speaking in Uyo during a road walk tagged: ‘Road Show and Rally’, the Director of Orientation and Behaviour Modification, Abuja, Ms Tessy Nnalue lamented that even though HIV/AIDS is persisting, a lot of people are throwing caution to the wind.

She noted it became necessary for the agency to carry out a sustained awareness for people to remain conscious and avoid things that would expose them to contracting the virus.

“We are carrying out this road show to remind the public that HIV/AIDS is real and to create sustained awareness for people to stay safe.

“This sensitisation sought to promote prevention strategies and encourage residents to undergo testing.

“In the past, there was a time AIDs was ravaging and at a point it subsided, so NOA is here to remind the public about it and if anyone goes in a wrong way, they should protect themselves.”

Nnalue also advised Nigerians to always be security conscious anywhere they go and report any suspicious movement to security agencies for appropriate action

On his part, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, also noted that the awareness campaign is to educate the public on the importance of tax compliance and the recent reforms in the tax system.

According to him, the current move of the federal government is to improve revenue generation for the country whereby a common man will not be overburdened with multiple taxations.

Mkpoutom said the awareness campaign is to equally educate the public on fundamental human rights by advising them to always know their rights and privileges.
