Lagos task force impounds 66 motorcycles in Island enforcement drive
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (Task Force) has impounded 66 commercial motorcycles (okadas) for violating state transport regulations across key areas of Lagos Island.
The Chairman of the Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by the agency’s spokesperson, Abdulraheem Gbadeyan.

Akerele stated that the enforcement operation, conducted on Monday, was designed to curb illegal motorcycle operations and eliminate security threats and public nuisances. The targeted locations included CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, the Lekki-Ajah Expressway, and the Lagos Coastal Road.
According to Akerele, operators were caught plying restricted routes, obstructing traffic, and endangering other road users.
“During the operation, 66 commercial motorcycles were impounded, and normalcy was restored to the affected areas,” Akerele said.
He highlighted that the agency has deployed enhanced intelligence gathering and AI-driven data analytics, including traffic monitoring systems and predictive pattern analysis, to anticipate illegal routes and outsmart recalcitrant operators attempting to evade enforcement.
Akerele warned that future operations will extend penalties to passengers using illegal motorcycle services on prohibited routes. He added that all impounded motorcycles will be forfeited to the Lagos State Government via judicial process, in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining continuous surveillance and enforcement until full compliance with transport regulations is established across the state.
