Osun election: Senator under fire over alleged kill threat

A senator representing a senatorial district in Osun State has come under fire after allegedly calling on his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The alleged comments were contained in a video shared on social media by Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

In the video, the lawmaker is seen addressing supporters in Yoruba while discussing the Accord Party and the forthcoming election.

According to an English translation provided by Davido, the senator allegedly told his supporters to kill Accord Party members whenever they encountered them.

In another part of the video, the lawmaker allegedly warned that Accord supporters would not be allowed to vote, even if they arrived at polling units with valid voter cards.

The authenticity of the video and the accuracy of the translation could not be independently verified.

The alleged remarks have raised concerns over the potential for political violence and voter intimidation ahead of the election.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions in Osun, with political parties and their supporters campaigning for votes in the final days before the poll. Security agencies and other stakeholders have repeatedly urged politicians and their supporters to refrain from violence and allow voters to exercise their franchise freely and peacefully.
