CHRAN warns of plans to destabilise academic activities at education college

Civil Society group, the Center for Human Rights and Accountability Network (CHRAN), has alerted security agencies and the people of Akwa Ibom of a plot to destabilise academic activities in the state education college.
The Director of CHRAN, Otuekong Franklyn Isong, stated on Friday during a press conference in Uyo that some persons were planning to instigate labour unrest in the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
Isong who stated that sponsors of the unrest are working with some staff and members of the College community, urged security agencies, management and staff of the College, and members of the public to be alert and vigilant.
He explained that intelligence reports revealed that the sponsors of the unrest plan to disrupt academic activities, and stall the ongoing process of upgrading the institution from a College of Education to a University of Education.
The CHRAN Director commended Governor Umo Eno for efforts made towards the development of the College through the construction of an internal roads network, and other ongoing projects, as well as attending to the educational needs of the people.
He applauded the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for the Bill to upgrade the College of Education, Afaha Nsit to the Akwa Ibom State University of Education, and called on all stakeholders within and outside the College to work together for the interest of the institution.
