The Bayelsa State Education Development Trust Fund (EDTF) on Tuesday donated 100 double-bunk beds, 200 mattresses and 10 laptops to the Bayelsa State College of Nursing Sciences, Tombia-Ekpetiama, in a major intervention aimed at improving students’ welfare and strengthening healthcare education.
The EDTF said the donation forms part of its broader commitment to enhancing learning environments and advancing educational development across institutions in the state.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Executive Secretary of EDTF, Ebimieowei Etebu, said the intervention underscores the fund’s dedication to creating conducive academic environments for students.
He noted that the provision of the items would significantly improve students’ living and learning conditions, stressing that removing barriers to education remains essential for academic progress.
“This intervention from the state’s Education Development Trust Fund is borne out of our belief that the quality of a learning environment directly impacts the quality of learning itself,” Etebu said.
Referencing Benjamin Franklin, he added: “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. At EDTF, we extend that to mean investments in the spaces where knowledge is nurtured.”
Etebu further explained that research has consistently shown that adequate rest, comfort and access to essential tools are critical to effective learning outcomes.
Chairman of the EDTF Board, High Chief Fidelis Agbiki, described the donation as unprecedented in the institution’s history and expressed optimism that proper maintenance of the facilities would encourage future support.
He urged the college management and students to safeguard the items, noting that monitoring teams would carry out periodic inspections to ensure proper utilisation.
