ICAN honours A’Ibom Accountant-General with iconic award
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria will on Saturday honour Akwa Ibom State Accountant General, Mr Uwem Andrew-Essien, as one of its 2026 icons for his outstanding contributions to public financial management, professional accountancy and public service delivery.
The prestigious recognition will be conferred at the ICAN Annual Dinner and Awards Night scheduled for 16 May 2026 at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria will on Saturday honour Akwa Ibom State Accountant General, Mr Uwem Andrew-Essien, as one of its 2026 icons for his outstanding contributions to public financial management, professional accountancy and public service delivery.
The prestigious recognition will be conferred at the ICAN Annual Dinner and Awards Night scheduled for 16 May 2026 at The Monarch Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos.
Andrew-Essien, a fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, is being celebrated for years of distinguished service marked by professionalism, transparency and excellence in financial administration.
Since his confirmation as the substantive Accountant General of Akwa Ibom State in 2017, he has played a significant role in strengthening fiscal management and intergovernmental financial coordination.
His contributions to the accounting profession span several leadership positions, including former Chairman of ICAN Uyo and District Society, Treasurer of the ICAN Eastern District Conference, and member of the ICAN ATSWA Committee.
Outside public service, Andrew-Essien has also distinguished himself in academia and professional development. He formerly headed the Department of Accountancy at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, while also serving as an external assessor to polytechnics and a resource person for the National Board for Technical Education.
Widely respected for his humility, discipline and dedication to excellence, he has earned multiple honours over the years for transparency, productivity, educational advancement and humanitarian service.
His latest recognition by ICAN is seen by many as a reflection of his enduring influence on the accounting profession and his commitment to accountable governance and institutional development.
Ahead of the awards ceremony, colleagues, associates and admirers across Nigeria have continued to congratulate him on what is widely regarded as a well-deserved honour.
