Yuletide: FRSC deploys 783 personnel, warns motorists against unsafe driving

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Akwa Ibom Command, says it has deployed 783 personnel across the state to ensure a hitch-free yuletide celebration.

The Akwa Ibom Sector Commander, Mr Francis Ajatta, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement made available to journalists in Uyo.

Ajatta cautioned motorists against unsafe road-use practices during the festive period, stressing that the yuletide season is usually characterised by increased vehicular and human traffic.

“To enable seamless and effective coverage of all critical traffic corridors and major routes, as well as ensure free flow of traffic within and across the state, the Command has deployed 783 personnel, including special marshals.

“In addition, 11 patrol vehicles, two ambulances and a light-duty tow truck have also been deployed for the prompt clearing of obstructions on any part of the roads,” Ajatta said.

He alerted the motoring public that perceived road hazards during the period were predominantly human-related and could be avoided.

The sector commander urged driver’s licence applicants who had completed their biometric and physical capture to proceed to collect their licences, noting that about 6,108 unclaimed driver’s licences were currently at various centres awaiting collection.

“While the Command has continued regular public enlightenment on road-use culture and traffic law enforcement, Mobile Court sessions will also be deployed to deter recalcitrant traffic offenders during the period.

“Remember, life has no duplicate. Therefore, we must consciously strive to protect and safeguard our lives and safely share the roads with other users.

“Our family members, friends and well-wishers eagerly wait to receive and welcome us back home alive,” he said.

Ajatta further cautioned road users to tread with caution, noting that only the living celebrate.

He called on the general public to remain vigilant by observing all traffic rules and regulations, and to promptly report any road incidents or emergencies to the FRSC toll-free line, 122, for swift response.
