Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday, 15 November 2025, announced N800 million empowerment scheme for non-indigenous residents in the state, including Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba, Niger Delta communities, and others.
According to Eno, the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to promoting unity, inclusivity, and equal opportunities for all residents, irrespective of ethnic background.
The governor said this while addressing the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, during the Igbo Unity Day celebration held at Ibom Hall in Uyo.
He noted that many non-indigenes were born and have built thriving businesses in the state, adding that they should be regarded as integral members of Akwa Ibom State.
Commending the leadership of the Igbo community for fostering unity and peace, Eno said such values mirror his administration’s focus and remain essential for sustainable development. He also praised the Igbo entrepreneurial spirit, describing it as “impressive and exemplary.”
“The Igbo people here are part of our social fabric; they have added value to our community through their remarkable spirit of industry and brotherhood,” he stated.
Eno added that Akwa Ibom has increasingly become a melting pot where diverse cultures coexist harmoniously. He attributed the state’s peaceful environment to the government’s deliberate investment in peace-building, security, and hospitality.
He pledged continued partnership with the Igbo community and other non-indigenous groups, provided they maintain peace, obey the law, and remain law-abiding citizens.
In his remarks, the President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the state, Hon. Kayceey Chidiadi, commended Eno for his inclusive and impactful leadership. He said the governor’s emphasis on peace and unity has positively influenced the Igbo community, helping resolve longstanding internal divisions.
Chidiadi also expressed appreciation for the appointment of Igbo members into the state government—an opportunity, he said, had never been extended to them since the creation of Akwa Ibom State.
He assured the governor of the community’s support for his re-election, as well as for President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
