Police dismantle armed robbery syndicate, recover weapons in A’Ibom

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a three-man armed robbery syndicate and recovered dangerous weapons in its ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal gangs across the state.
According to a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the suspects were arrested on Friday, November 7, 2025, at about 8:00 pm, following credible intelligence that led operatives to a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village.

Two suspects — Akan Udo (40) of Ikot Edem Udo Village and Namso Monday (20) of Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village — were arrested at the scene while receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments.
The native doctor, suspected of providing cover for the gang, fled before the police arrived, and efforts are ongoing to track him down.
Further investigation led to the arrest of a third suspect, Mbata Udo (40) of Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village, in connection with the same robbery operation.
Items recovered from the suspects include are, one locally made pistol, one locally made revolver pistol, 16 machetes, six mobile phones, two large generators, one battle axe, one plier, and other incriminating materials.

The police said investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the process.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their professionalism and reiterated the command’s commitment to flushing out criminals and maintaining public safety across Akwa Ibom State.
