The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with armed robbery in Etinan Local Government Area that left one person dead and another abducted.
The incident occurred on July 12, 2026, at Ikot Itienang Village, Ekom Eman, Etinan LGA. Following a petition to the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, detectives launched an intelligence-led investigation to identify those responsible.
The investigation led to the arrest of two alleged members of the robbery gang, Gospel Effiong, alias “Python”, and Solomon Okon, alias “Plane”.
Two other suspects, Musa Kabiru, a native of Plateau State, and Victor Dickson, were also arrested in connection with the incident. Police alleged that Kabiru received some of the items stolen during the robbery.
A search of Okon’s residence led to the recovery of a locally made pistol with one cartridge, a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp, a red cap bearing the inscription “Supreme Red Skin Confraternity”, an item suspected to be a charm and other materials believed to be relevant to the investigation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the arrests marked a significant breakthrough in the investigation and demonstrated the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks linked to violent crimes in the state.
John, in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said detectives were continuing their investigation to establish the roles of the suspects and track down any other persons linked to the crime.
CP Baba Mohammed Azare commended the detectives for their diligence, professionalism and intelligence-led approach to the investigation.
Azare reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that suspects linked to murder, kidnapping and armed robbery are brought to justice.
He also urged members of the public to provide credible and timely information that could assist the police in tracking fleeing suspects and preventing further criminal activities in the state.
