The Ikorodu Local Government has empowered residents with cash and gift as it unveils the council website with a promise to continually conduct an empowerment programme every quarter.
Council chairman, Mr Wasiu Adesina made the promise while giving stewardship of the council’s performance.
One hundred residents were empowered with N20,000 to support their businesses while seven got minibuses for transport.
Adesina stated that trying times and an unsteady economic environment have drastically increased the level of unemployment, noting that his administration deemed it fit to continue with the empowerment of youths with necessary tools for work with a view to making them financially stable and self-reliance.
He said: “Today is another important day in the history of Ikorodu Local government, the council wants to perform a dual role.
“First is the unveiling of the website as the first time in history where the website is created where everybody can see all our functions.
“The second important aspect of today’s occasion is empowerment and support of 100 people with the N20,000 each.”
He stated that the beneficiaries were carefully selected among the youths’ market men and women and the Community Development Association in the council.
Adesina advised youths to shun all forms of violence, gangsterism, cultism and hooliganism and wayward lifestyles that could bring shame to the image of their families and ruin their dreams.
He highlighted some of his achievements in the first 100 days as general sanitation and fumigation exercises at the Sabo market.
