Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has assured all corps members deployed to the state of adequate security throughout their service year.

Eno said this during the swearing-in of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom.

The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sport, Mrs Rose Bassey, warned the corps members against indulging in negative vices that cause disaffection across ethnic and religious divides.

“The Akwa Ibom State Government will continue to perform its task of giving everyone the needed opportunities and necessary tools including the enabling environment to contribute to the overall growth of our economy.

“We are consciously taking every necessary step to ensure that your life and property including that of other citizens are protected against all forms of molestation and abuse from any disgruntled individuals or group.

“Do not follow the people whose stock in trade is to cause disaffection across ethnic and religious divides thereby tarnishing the image of Nigeria in the comity of nations but follow the part of righteousness and you will excel in life,” Eno said.

Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr Christopher Okun said a total of 1,576 corps members were deployed to the state comprising 579 males and 997 females.

Okun commended the corps members for demonstrating a high sense of discipline, dedication and willingness to learn.

“They have also shown great enthusiasm and have been responding satisfactorily to the regimented nature of the camp, which I consider as initial evidence of their determination to succeed in the programme,” he said.

Okun appealed to both the federal and state governments to assist in connecting the camp to the national grid to ensure a steady power supply.

He also solicited assistance to build perimeter fencing to ensure adequate security of the camp facilities.

Highpoint of the event was the administration of the oath of allegiance on the corps members by the Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot, represented by Justice Edem Akpan.
