Yobe State governorship is not a family affair – Group alleges
A group, Potiskum Vanguard, said recent disturbing happenstances in the polity of Yobe State is a serious cause for concern of every right-thinking Yobean and Nigeria at large.
The group alleged that the trend is the inordinate ambition of a former Yobe State Deputy Governor and serving member of the Federal Executive Council, Alhaji Abubakar Ali, who has generated ethnic, political disequilibrium as well as security challenges in Yobe State.
This was contained in a statement signed by the convener, Potiskum Vanguard, Mamman Aliyu and made available to newsmen on Friday.
In the light of the above, we wish to therefore state as follows: “That following the demise of His Excellency, the Late Senator Mamman Bello Ali as Governor of Yobe State in 2010, his brother Engr. Abubakar Ali was appointed as Deputy Governor based on consensus and sympathy of political stakeholders and elders of Yobe State, especially the then All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) which fused into the All Progress Congress (APC) later.
“The late Senator Mamman Ali died at the verge of his annexation of Fika Emirate from Potiskum and deposition of the 42nd Emir of Fika, the Late Alhaji (Dr) Abali Muhammadu Ibn Idrissa, CON, to execute an ethnic cleansing plan of his Ngizimawa tribe to sack the Bolewa tribe cum Fika Emirate. Mamman Ali had died but the ethnic cleansing plan of his tribesmen is still trending.
“Senator Mamman Ali’s brother and current Minister representing Yobe State in the Federal Executive Council has turned out as the longest-serving Deputy Governor in Nigeria, ruling for 10 years from 2010 – 2019. Within the period under review, we recall with regrets the political animosities between Governor Ibrahim Geidam and Deputy Governor Ali’s alleged poisoning of Governor Geidam in Yobe State Government House/Governor’s Office in Damaturu.
“The immediate past Yobe State Governor, now a Senator of the Federal Republic managed to complete his tenure as Yobe State Governor with a terminal sickness, ailing health as a senator and is in an out of hospital locally and internationally to attend to his bad health are traced to Abubakar Ali’s evil plot to kill his boss and become Yobe State Governor by all means.
“The serving Governor of Yobe State, His Excellency, Mai Mala Buni which became Governor in 2019 has shown greater socio-political promise in governance as evidenced in the areas of infrastructure, education, housing, security, and other indices and only needs a second term to consolidate and launch Yobe into the community of developed states in the North-East despite the effects and ruins of a decade of insurgency in the zone.”
The statement alleged that the clandestine plans of the minister representing Yobe State in the Federal Executive Council to unseat Governor Mai Mala Buni is not only evil, inordinate but an aberration to the socio-political constitution of Yobe State.
“The current Yobe minister cannot be trusted with power as there are several unresolved ethnic cum tribal animosities linked to him. His assumption of higher political responsibilities and arrogation of political power to him would translate into the political debauchery of Yobe State, the resurrection of unfinished or unaccomplished ethnic scores which would further heighten the tensed insurgency milieu of the state.
“We hereby state categorically that the Yobe Minister is too dangerous to replace Governor Mai Mala Buni as Yobe State governor.
“We bemoan the lacklustre performance of the Yobe Minister in the Federal Ministry of Works & Housing. Yobe State was highly humiliated by the show of shame of the Minister at the recent Budget defence session with the Senate Committee on Power recently.
“The ambition of Abubakar Ali is not worth the lives of innocent Nigerians to be consumed as an atonement to his political and insurgent intentions,” the statement added.
