We owe our progress, peace in UNIUYO to God – VC Ndaeyo

Ini Billie, Uyo

Vice Chancellor of the University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo has attributed the strides and peace experienced in the institution for 21 years to God.

Speaking on Tuesday in Uyo during the annual covenant renewal service of the institution, Prof Ndaeyo said God has showered Uniuyo with numerous blessings since 2002 when the programme started.

The VC said despite the challenges and difficulties that the institution has faced, through hard work, dedication, and faith in God Almighty, the staff and students of the institution have all been preserved.

“God has showered the University with many blessings, chief among which is the peace we have witnessed in the last Twenty-one years. In addition, the University has won many national and international honours courtesy of Management, staff and students.

“We have also had successful accreditation of programmes by academic and professional bodies as well as general improvements in our environmental and physical infrastructure.

“This is the third Covenant Renewal Service I am attending as the Vice-Chancellor of our great University. Indeed, I can confirm that the decision to hand over the University of Uyo to God has been the turning point of the successes recorded so far as earlier highlighted,” he stated.

The VC commended erstwhile Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akpan H. Ekpo, for the courage to start the covenant service as directed by God and other Vice Chancellors after him who have sustained the tradition every April 11.

He called on Management, staff and students of the institution to use the service to reflect and celebrate the accomplishments of the university.

Also speaking, the Acting Registrar, Mr Linus Okoko, said the annual event which has been sustained through the years has caused the University to enjoy immeasurable peace from God.

Okoko said the theme for the 2023 covenant service, “The Lord: Our Help, our Hope”, rekindles hope in the creator who knows all things as recorded in I Sam. 17: 37.

“Indeed, our God is faithful and has assured us of His loving kindness at all times. During our trying period occasioned by industrial action by staff Unions, the COVID-19 pandemic, insecurity, kidnapping, and the most recent of them all, the cash crunch, among others, the Lord manifested Himself in the affairs of this country, State and the University of Uyo community.

“The university was faced with daunting challenges and dwindling resources, yet God helped us. God in His faithfulness saw us through the turbulent times. We have heard of wars, killings, banditry and many other vices in society but our God has never failed us as an institution,” he stated.
