Universities to shut down ahead of general elections
All universities and inter-university centres will close down for students and staff to participate in the forthcoming general elections, the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has directed.
In a circular dated February 3, 2023, the minister, through the National Universities Commission, directed Vice-Chancellors of all universities and Directors/Chief Executive Officers of all Inter-university centres, to shut down their respective institutions from Wednesday February 22, to Tuesday March 14, 2023, when the elections would have been concluded.
The circular also referred to insecurity as part of the reasons for closure of the educational institutions.
The circular sighted by NOTM was signed by Chris J. Maiyaki, Deputy Executive Secretary (Administration) on behalf of the Executive Secretary (NUC), Professor Abubakar Rasheed.
