Five persons die in Lagos gas explosion explosion

Three persons have died from a gas explosion that occurred at 21, Ojekunle Street, Ladipo, Mushin around 08.42 am on Tuesday.
Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, said that the service mobilised its men and officers to the scene as soon as it learnt of the incident from the state emergency report.
According to her, the gas incident which was reported at 08:42 hours Tuesday morning via the State emergency reporting platform was swiftly responded to by a combination of the State first and secondary responders.
“On arrival at the scene, discovered that the fire occurred is an open space used for several activities including a beer parlour, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale and gas shop amongst others while housing a makeshift structure.
“Three male adults had been recovered as rescue and recovery operations continue in an environment isolated from causing any further secondary incident,” she said.
She said preliminary investigations to establish the fact of the incident continues and further discovery will be made public.
A spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye said four adult bodies have been recovered from the explosion scene while one child died on the way to the hospital.
Farinloye explained that the fire at the scene had already been put out while emergency workers were making effort to recover more bodies.
