Sanwo-Olu backs FOMWAN’s Eti-Osa clinic project

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the Lagos chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) for constructing a community clinic in Elesan village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The governor pledged government support for the project, noting that the facility, funded by the organisation, would benefit residents across the state.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the Lagos chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN) for constructing a community clinic in Elesan village, Eti-Osa Local Government Area.

The governor pledged government support for the project, noting that the facility, funded by the organisation, would benefit residents across the state.

Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, said Sanwo-Olu gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving the Amirah and executive members of FOMWAN’s Lagos chapter during a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.

He congratulated the Muslim faithful on the recent Eid al-Fitr celebration and expressed optimism about the forthcoming Hajj exercise, praying for a safe and successful pilgrimage.

Describing the clinic project as commendable, the governor praised the group’s initiative and commitment to community development.

“You have made significant personal sacrifices to drive this project. However, you need additional support, and as a government, we will stand by you,” he said.

He emphasised that the facility would serve all residents, regardless of religion or affiliation, adding that such initiatives complement government efforts in delivering essential services.

“We will support you to ensure the project is completed promptly and to a high standard. This is a project we are proud of because it serves everyone and supports the government in fulfilling its responsibilities,” he added.

Earlier, the Amirah of FOMWAN in Lagos State, Alhaja Serifat Ajagbe, reaffirmed the association’s commitment to supporting government efforts in healthcare, education, community development and humanitarian services.

She commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for its achievements, particularly in infrastructure and social development.

“We appreciate your continued support and your advocacy for women’s inclusion in governance, as reflected in your cabinet,” she said.

Ajagbe also praised ongoing projects such as the Red and Blue Line rail systems and the Children’s Hospital initiative.

She disclosed that the association embarked on the community clinic project in Elesan village, along Orchid Road in Eti-Osa, to mark its 40th anniversary in Lagos State.

According to her, the project is about 70 per cent complete, and the association would welcome government support to ensure its completion.

Other members of the delegation included the Vice Amirah, Alhaja Amdat Olanipekun; General Secretary, Dr F. Iyanda; Assistant General Secretary, Alhaja Idiat Abolade; Missioner, Alhaja Rahmattalai Olaniyan; Planning Committee Chairperson, Alhaja Fatima Gawat; and Youth Amirah, Sister Ruqayyah Jimoh-Fari.
