Former Somolu Local Government Chairman, AbdulHameed Salawu, has declared that he possesses the capacity and experience to deliver sustainable grassroots development if elected to represent Somolu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Salawu made the declaration on Thursday in Lagos while formally announcing his intention to contest the seat under the All Progressives Congress, promising inclusive representation, empowerment programmes and meaningful development for residents.

Dismissing claims that he lacked political backing in the constituency, Salawu said the large turnout at his declaration event demonstrated his widespread acceptance among the people.

“People spread rumours that I do not have supporters, but the crowd here today has shown otherwise.

“What the people need is a capable leader who can deliver meaningful development and empowerment to the grassroots,” he said.

He stated that his eight-year tenure as chairman of Somolu Local Government brought significant development to the area, adding that residents were still benefiting from his administration’s achievements.

Salawu also called for peace before, during and after the party primaries and general elections, revealing that political stakeholders in the constituency had signed a peace accord to ensure a violence-free electoral process.

Earlier, APC apex leader in the constituency, Alhaji Olasunbo Bakare, urged party members to participate actively in the primaries and vote for candidates of their choice.

Bakare advised members to come with their membership cards and ensure that their votes counted.

Speaking for the Arewa community, Alhaji Abdullai Kareem appealed to supporters to remain peaceful throughout the election period, describing Salawu as a leader who had empowered various groups.

Also, Patrick Eze, representing the Igbo community in the constituency, praised Salawu for his generosity and support for residents.
