Police raid Uruan hideout, arrest two drug suspects

Two suspected drug dealers have been arrested and a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp recovered after police raided a criminal hideout in Uruan, Akwa Ibom State.

The suspects, identified as Fortune Effiong and Comfort Effiong, were arrested when police operatives stormed the hideout in Idu Uruan village, Uruan Local Government Area, at about 1:30 am on September 9.

The raid followed intelligence on criminal activities at the location, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Saturday 12, 2026.

John said officers searched the hideout and recovered substantial quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp and Cannabis sativa, believed to have been meant for distribution and consumption.

The operation was part of an intelligence-led crackdown ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, to dismantle criminal hideouts and tackle areas identified as criminal “black spots” across the state.

Azare commended the officers for the operation and directed that the investigation be pursued to its conclusion.

The command said it was stepping up efforts against the illegal distribution of narcotics because of its impact on public safety and young people.

It urged residents to report suspicious activities and provide credible information that could assist police operations, assuring them that such information would be treated confidentially.
