The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has warned against planned political rallies in Uyo on Saturday, 28 March 2026, stating that no approval has been granted for the events.
The command said it received credible intelligence about a proposed two-million-man rally in support of a presidential candidate, allegedly organised by the Village Boys Movement and widely circulated on social media. It also confirmed a parallel rally planned by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Group for the same date.
According to the Police, while the Renewed Hope Ambassadors Group submitted a formal application for its rally, the Village Boys Movement failed to notify the authorities through any official channel.
Despite the application, the command stressed that it has not approved either rally, citing the need to maintain peace, public safety and fairness.
“The organisers and intended participants are warned that proceeding with these unauthorised gatherings will attract immediate police intervention,” the statement said.
The police further noted that all political activities must strictly comply with the timetable and guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), emphasising that campaigns and rallies are only permitted within approved periods.
It warned that any individual or group found organising or participating in unlawful rallies would face legal consequences, including arrest and prosecution.
The command urged organisers to suspend all plans until proper authorisation is obtained, describing the directive as a firm and final warning.
Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining law and order, the Police called on residents and political groups to obey the law and avoid actions capable of undermining peace and stability in the state.
The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Monday, 23 March 2026.
