Attempts to disrupt elections in some units in Eket Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State has been prevented by the police.

Chairman of Eket LGA, Mr Tommy Akaninyene, said this after voting in his Polling Unit, 003 Central Two in Afia Nsit Town Hall in Eket, on Saturday.

Akaninyene condemned the attempt by the opposition party, saying the plan was unsuccessful and everything was brought under control with the help of security personnel.

“The process is fantastic until someone who claimed to be an agent of opposition party came to the polling unit without a tag, came to cause problem, claiming that he is an agent of the opposition party.

“I placed a call to security agents who came in to intervene and ensure that everything was under control in the unit,” he stated.

Though efforts to confirm the incident was unsuccessful as the Public Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon did not pick his telephone calls, but one Kingsley Ikot, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in the area, said the opposition tried to cause problems in the centre.

“But we raised alarm and signal security agency, the officer now called the Divisional Political Officer who came to quell the issue. “With the presence of the DPO, they conducted themselves, so everything was calm,” he said.
