Police arrest suspected kidnapper over Akwa Ibom murder
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Otuekong Enoidem, over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Koffi, whose death was reported to the command on 24 August 2026.
Enoidem, an indigene of Akai Ubium Village in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, was arrested at about 11.30 pm on 25 August while allegedly attempting to collect a ₦3m ransom from the victim’s family.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Otuekong Enoidem, over the alleged kidnapping and murder of Koffi, whose death was reported to the command on 24 August 2026.
Enoidem, an indigene of Akai Ubium Village in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, was arrested at about 11.30 pm on 25 August while allegedly attempting to collect a ₦3m ransom from the victim’s family.
The arrest followed sustained intelligence-led operations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, as part of efforts to identify those behind the killing and dismantle kidnapping networks operating in the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives also recovered the victim’s mobile phone, which was allegedly used by the kidnappers to communicate ransom demands to the family.
John said the recovery was considered important evidence that could help investigators establish the circumstances surrounding the crime and identify other members of the suspected criminal network.
The PPRO said the commissioner commended the operatives for their diligence, courage and professionalism, assuring residents that the command would sustain intelligence-led policing, surveillance and operations against kidnappers and other violent criminals.
“The command will continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, strategic surveillance and sustained operational pressure against kidnappers and other criminal elements,” John said.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to the Police and other security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remained crucial to preventing and detecting crime.
The police said the suspect remained in custody as investigations continued, adding that further developments would be communicated as the investigation progressed.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and warned criminals that they would be pursued and brought to justice in accordance with the law.
