*Man who brutalised son in Aba, Abia State
Police in Abia State have arrested a man, Uzoma Uwaeme, for allegedly stripping, tying up and flogging his 13-year-old son in Aba.
The arrest followed a viral video showing the teenager bound with ropes, injured and left exposed to the sun.
The Abia State Police Command said on Wednesday that the suspect was arrested at his residence on Nwokocha Street, off Udeabara Road, Aba, after the Commissioner of Police, Wilfred Afolabi, ordered an investigation into the incident.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said the boy had been rescued, given medical attention and placed under police protective custody.
She said the suspect remained in custody while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
According to Chinaka, the teenager was in stable condition.
Afolabi condemned the alleged abuse as inhumane and a gross violation of the child’s rights, reaffirming the command’s zero tolerance for child abuse and domestic violence.
The commissioner directed that the suspect be prosecuted in accordance with the law after the investigation.
The police urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse and other criminal acts to the nearest police station.
