The Federal Government has paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
The National Sports Commission confirmed that the players’ accounts were credited on September 9, 2026, while each team official received the equivalent of $50,000.
The payments complete the cash component of the Presidential Reward that President Bola Tinubu promised the team after its historic Afrobasket triumph.
D’Tigress won the 2025 title for a record fifth consecutive time and seventh overall.
The NSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, said in a statement on Wednesday that the reward package also included three-bedroom flats in Abuja and national honours.
The players and officials received title documents for the apartments and certificates of their national honours in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France.
The commission said all recipients of the latest cash payments had confirmed receipt, completing the Federal Government’s reward package for the team.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons are also due to receive the same cash component of their Presidential Reward, with each player entitled to the naira equivalent of $100,000 and each official $50,000.
The Falcons have already received title documents for their three-bedroom Abuja apartments and certificates of national honours. The NSC said the cash component of their reward was expected to be paid before their next official engagements.
