The South-South Zonal Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and caretaker Chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter, George Turnah, has dismissed reports claiming he has been expelled from the party.
In a statement issued by his Media Assistant, Kelvin Egbo, on Sunday, Turnah urged the public to disregard the announcement, which was reportedly made at a social gathering in Ibadan.
He described the claim as a “pitiful display of desperation” by political opportunists seeking to sow confusion within the party. According to him, the purported expulsion “holds no merit” and should be seen as “good riddance to bad rubbish.”
Turnah explained that no valid PDP National Convention has taken place since 2022, when the party elected its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections. He added that the party’s constitution provides clear guidelines for disciplinary actions, including the requirement of a fair hearing.
“It should be noted that no legitimate PDP National Convention has been held anywhere in Nigeria since the last one in 2022,” he said.
“Moreover, the PDP Constitution clearly outlines offences and the corresponding disciplinary procedures, ensuring the right to a fair hearing before any action is taken.”
Reiterating his position within the party, Turnah maintained that he remains a bona fide and duly elected PDP official with “unwavering commitment to its ideals.”
He also reaffirmed his allegiance to the party’s national leader and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, saying his loyalty remains “steadfast” and “unshakeable.”
