Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), days after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Omo-Agege announced in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, on Thursday.
He said the decision followed weeks of consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders across the country.
The former lawmaker said he joined the NDC because the party represents “inclusion, accountability, grassroots participation and true federalism,” adding that it offers the best platform to advance the interests of Delta State and Nigeria.
He also declared support for the party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, his decision to seek a return to the Senate was in response to what he described as persistent calls from the people of Delta Central for effective representation.
Omo-Agege criticised the state of infrastructure and public services in Delta State, lamenting poor roads, inadequate healthcare facilities, unemployment and underdevelopment despite huge federal allocations to the state.
He accused the political leadership of failing the people and pledged to champion transparency, accountability and equitable distribution of federal projects if elected.
The former Deputy Senate President said the NDC would immediately begin strengthening its structures across Delta State ahead of the 2027 elections through grassroots mobilisation and membership registration.
He also promised to work for the success of the party at all levels, including the presidential, governorship and National Assembly elections.
Calling on youths, women, traditional rulers and voters to participate actively in the political process, Omo-Agege urged Nigerians to use their Permanent Voter Cards to bring about what he described as a new direction for Delta State and the country.
