NYSC coordinator urges corps members to contribute to state development

State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr Julius Amusan, on Tuesday urged the 2020 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1B Corps members posted to the state to see their posting as opportunity to contribute to the development of the state and Nigeria.

Speaking in his remarks during the swearing-in of the corps members at the state orientation camp in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, Amusan asked the corps members to participate fully in all activities in the camp.

Represented by the Assistant Director, Corps Inspection and Monitoring, Mrs Janes Okpongette, Amusan, told the corps members that their service is pivotal in the vision of the present administration towards enhancing the living condition of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

“I implore you to see your deployment to Akwa Ibom State for national service an opportunity to contribute your quota to the development of the state and the nation.

“This is pursuant to the vision of this present administration towards enhancing the living condition of the people of Akwa Ibom State,” Amusan said.

According to him, he was elated that the corps members have quickly adjusted to the realities of camp life and have demonstrated the capacity to cope with the demands of orientation exercise.

Amusan said that the orientation programme was conducted under strict adherence to COVID-19 safety guidelines, adding that the NCDC officials were in the camp to enforce these standards.

He said NCDC officials have run test on all corps members and camp officials to ensure that the orientation camp was free from COVID-19.

Amusan commended the Akwa Ibom Government for providing enabling environment for the NYSC to thrive and solicited for more support to enhance the welfare of corps members and camp officials.

He disclosed that at the closed of registration, which spanned for five days in line with COVID-19 protocols, a total of 588 corps members were registered, comprising 293 males and 295 females.

Earlier, the Chief Judge  of Akwa Ibom, Justice Godwin Abraham, represented by Justice Gabriel Ette, administered oath of allegiance on the corps members.
