The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom Command has deployed 1000 personnel to ensure hitch-free yuletide season in the state.

The State Commandant of NSCDC in Akwa Ibom, Mr Eluyemi Eluwade, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Uyo on Thursday.

Eluwade said that the command has mapped out strategies to secure the lives and property of residents across the state.

“I have a series of meetings with my officers and men concerning this yuletide season, especially with the ongoing programme in the Christmas village.

“Invariably, we have set out over 1000 personnel to ensure the protection of critical government infrastructure across the 31 Local Government Areas in the State.

“You can see a lot of things may want to happen, that we do not want. The operation aims to ensure that the security of lives and property are guaranteed,” Eluwade said.

Eluwade said the command would collaborate with other security agencies to ensure hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations across the 31 local government areas.

He said the command would deploy personnel to churches to protect worshippers during the period.

He added that the command has also mapped out all flashpoints in the state to ensure peace throughout the celebration.

He added that even though schools are not in session, adequate arrangements around the schools have been made to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

He urged residents, worshippers and fun makers in the state to go about their activities unmolested, stressing that adequate security has been put in place.

“We have mapped out all flash points and all our men undercover will be available at strategic locations to ensure safety of lives and property.

“We will collaborate with Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and other security agencies to ensure that Akwa Ibom people enjoy these celebrations.

“So, I assured all Akwa Ibom people to go about their normal duties as adequate security has been put in place this yuletide.

Eluwade warned criminals and those wanting to foment trouble to stay clear as security operatives would deal decisively with troublemakers.
