The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to remain united in the fight against insurgency and other security threats confronting the country, while commending security agencies for the successful rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
The Director-General of the agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
The statement, signed by the NOA’s Deputy Director of Communication and Media, Mr Paul Odenyi, praised the gallantry, professionalism and unwavering commitment of Nigeria’s security agencies.
Issa-Onilu’s remarks followed the successful rescue of pupils and teachers abducted by suspected terrorists from schools in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State after what he described as a painstaking intelligence-led security operation.
He said the operation demonstrated what could be achieved through coordinated action, effective intelligence gathering and the dedication of security personnel working together in the national interest.
According to him, Nigeria’s diversity remains one of its greatest strengths and must never be undermined by criminal elements seeking to sow fear, division and instability.
He added that the successful operation sent a clear message that criminal elements could not outwit a determined nation acting in unity and with purpose.
Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to continue supporting the country’s security agencies by remaining vigilant, promptly reporting suspicious activities and refusing to allow ethnic, religious or political differences to weaken the collective resolve to defeat those threatening the nation’s peace and security.
“The responsibility of securing our nation does not rest with government and security agencies alone.
“Every Nigerian has a role to play. When citizens cooperate with security agencies, share credible information and reject narratives that divide us, we strengthen our collective ability to protect our communities and preserve our country,” he said.
The NOA Director-General also paid tribute to the security personnel who lost their lives or sustained injuries during the rescue operation.
He described their courage, selflessness and patriotism as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices many security operatives continue to make in safeguarding the country.
Issa-Onilu reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to promoting national values, responsible citizenship and civic consciousness through its extensive grassroots network across the country.
He said the NOA would continue to engage communities, mobilise citizens and encourage greater public participation in building a peaceful, united and secure Nigeria.
