NOA urges parents in A’Ibom to protect, recognise children’s rights
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has tasked parents to ensure the protection and recognition of child rights as essential component of human rights.
The State Director of NOA in Akwa Ibom, Mr Mkpoutom Mkpoutom, said parents should recognised that children are entitled to specific protections and freedoms due to their vulnerability and developmental needs, as embedded in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as adopted in 1989.
Mkpoutom said this in a remarks on Monday while addressing parents and children of Sanctified Mount Zion Church, Ikot Oku Ikono in Uyo to mark the 2025 Children’s day celebration.
He added that every child deserves equal rights regardless of their race, gender, disability and economic status of parents.
“Children have the inherent right to life and parents has an obligation to provide conditions that promote their survival and development, including access to healthcare, education and an adequate standard of living,” he said.
Also speaking at the sensitisation campaign meeting, Mr Anietie Udofia, Head of Department for Youth Engagements and inclusion of NOA, noted that children’s rights are fundamental to creating a just and equitable society.
Udofia said that by recognising and advocating for these rights, could help ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive regardless of their circumstances.
“The commitment to uphold children’s rights must be constant, transcending borders, cultures and communities to foster an environment where every child can grow, learn and participate fully in society,” he said.
Responding on behalf the parents, Mr Kingsley Effiong, commended the efforts NOA in educating the Nigerian public in a number of issues that promotes the development of an ideal society.
He said that parents would continue to do their best in taking care of children and ensuring the recognition of their rights.
