NOA condemns assault on corps member
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has expressed deep dismay over the unfortunate and embarrassing incident involving a corps member and individuals identified as vigilantes in Anambra State.
A statement issued by Mr Bala Musa, Director of Communication and Media, noted that the Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, NOA, unequivocally condemns the act, adding that any such actions violate the rights, dignity, and personal security of Nigerian citizens.
He quoted the DG as saying, “It is both regrettable and unacceptable that persons charged with the responsibility of upholding the dignity and security of Nigerians would act in a manner so unbecoming and grossly irresponsible.”
According to DG, those who superintend over others should live up to the tenets of Nigeria’s promise, which emphasises service, accountability, and leadership by example.
He said that the abuse of power, particularly against youth corps members who serve in the national interest, undermines the very foundation of the country’s collective values.
The DG commended the swift and accountable response of the Anambra State Government and called for the diligent prosecution of all individuals involved in the shameful act.
“This is the least measure of justice due the corps member whose rights and dignity were so brazenly violated.
“We must all recognise that such images and incidents severely tarnish Nigeria’s reputation. Every citizen has a responsibility to uphold and project the positive image of Nigeria,” he said.
