Negligent discharge: Drunk NSCDC operative allegedly hits teenager in Uyo

A negligent discharge of a firearm from an operative of the Nigerian Security and Social Defence Corps (NSCDC) hit a 15-year-old Veronica Kufre in Uyo, with many running in all directions for safety.

The discharge was said to have happened on Friday evening during a traditional marriage ceremony of a couple simply identified as Uduak and Samuel.

The event took place at Nsukara along Nwaniba Road, shortly after the University of Uyo permanent site.

According to an eyewitness, two operatives of the NSCDC probably hired to maintain peace and security at the event, had allegedly gathered with members of the public drinking beer in merriment.

Unfortunately, the fireman was still in his hands when the discharge occurred.

CitizenDiary gathered that the cop managed to point the firearm to the ground but that a bullet slipped off hitting the girl who dropped down bleeding profusely.

While the victim was being rushed to a hospital, it was learnt that the youths had already mobilised to take laws into their hands when a police van suddenly drove in and took the took corps away.

The victim was admitted at Life Care Clinic, in Uyo after she was rejected by three other hospitals.

Our correspondent learnt that the victim was responding as doctors immediately swung into action to save her life.

Speaking with CitizenDiary on Saturday morning, the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command, SP Odiko MacDon, said the command was yet to receive the report on the incident.
