The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters and protecting critical national assets as it inaugurated key infrastructure projects at Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Jubilee in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, stated this on Tuesday during the inauguration ceremony, describing maritime security as vital to Nigeria’s economic prosperity and stability.
Represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral Chidozie Okehie, Abbas said the Navy had continued to play a crucial role in combating maritime crimes and ensuring security within the Gulf of Guinea through sustained operations and maritime security initiatives.
He said the Navy remained focused on building a more efficient and optimised force capable of improving maritime security in Nigeria.
“The Nigerian Navy is currently celebrating 70 years of dedicated service, sacrifice and commitment towards safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters and protecting critical national assets,” he said.
The projects inaugurated included a newly constructed two-by-two Senior Rates accommodation block, a remodelled NNS Jubilee galley and the NNS Jubilee ship’s bell.
Abbas said the projects were designed to enhance the welfare and operational environment of naval personnel as part of programmes commemorating the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary.
He added that the projects were also part of ongoing efforts by Naval Headquarters to enhance welfare standards in units and formations.
According to him, personnel welfare remains a top priority of his administration, stressing that adequate accommodation and a conducive working environment are essential for maintaining high morale, discipline and operational readiness among officers and ratings.

He noted that the newly inaugurated accommodation facility and remodelled structures would help reduce accommodation challenges within the base while improving personnel comfort and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
The Chief of Naval Staff commended the Commander of NNS Jubilee, Commodore Mohammed Manga, and other personnel for their dedication, professionalism and commitment towards the successful execution of the projects.
He also urged personnel to make proper use of the facilities and ensure their appropriate maintenance.
