A 25-year-old man, Joseph Friday has killed his father over an allegation that the deceased appeared to him in a dream and hypnotised him before depositing a spell in his body.
It was said that the suspect beat the deceased to death and then dragged the deceased’s lifeless body to the road to cover up his deeds.
The suspect who was paraded by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Tuesday confessed to the crime.
According to him, whenever he was hypnotised by the deceased, something like a tortoise would enter his body and he would become mentally unstable.
Narrating his ‘ordeal’, the suspect said, “My Father used a charm on me, he appeared in my dream and hypnotises me. Whenever he appears, something like a tortoise enters my body and I start to behave abnormally. I am a 25 years old farmer, I hit my father with my hand and he died”.
Speaking on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, said the suspect’s mother reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of her son.
“Relying on a petition, dated 19th December 2022 from one Mrs Eno Friday Wilson of Edebom 1 village in Nsit Ibom LGA, about the murder of her husband one Friday Wilson Usanga ‘m’ age 65 yrs old of same address.
“Operatives of Nsit Ibom Division arrested one Joseph Friday ‘m’ son of the deceased who killed his father by beating him to death, the suspect confessed to the crime and further stated that he dragged the lifeless body of his father to the road after beating him to death,” he stated.
The CP also mentioned the arrest of another murder suspect, one Akpan Okon Akpan, said to have burnt his friend to death over a phone charger.
According to the CP, “On 15th December 2022 relying on a petition from Rev. Emmanuel Ime ‘m’ of Ikot Ekwere Ubium Village in Nsit Ublum LGA at about 6:30Ppm Operatives of the Homicide Unit of the SCID Uyo, arrested one Akpan Okon Akpan ‘m’ of the same address who poured fuel on his brother, one Junior Ime Philip and set him ablaze leading to his death because of a disagreement over a phone charger”.
Stating that he was constrained to kill the deceased who started a fight with him, the suspect denied knowing the deceased but said he set fire to the deceased because the victim stormed into his shop and started a fight with him.
“He ran into my shop and said he was looking for someone and then picked a bottle and started a fight in my shop. I sell engine oil, petrol and kerosene. Till I poured the petrol on him, I didn’t know; till it happened, I didn’t know.
“I never knew the guy before. That was the first day I saw him. He came into my shop asking for someone, that the person holding his charger and I told him the person was not around. He then picked a bottle and started a fight with me,” Akpan stated.
