A graduate of the Lagos State University is reportedly receiving treatment after he was hit by a stray bullet during an attempted robbery involving a Point-of-Sale operator in the Igando area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred on Sunday on Kayode Onafuye Street in the Alhaji Ede area.

Residents said four suspected armed robbers arrived on two motorcycles and allegedly traced the PoS operator to her residence after failing to find her at her nearby shop.

The suspects reportedly attempted to force their way into the building but were prevented from gaining access after the occupants locked the entrance.

An eyewitness, who identified himself as Bode, said the suspects opened fire after failing to locate their target.

“The robbers came on two motorcycles and were about four in number. They first went to the PoS operator’s shop, which is close to the house. When they did not find her there, they went to the residence and attempted to gain entry,” he said.

“The occupants locked the entrance, and the robbers began shooting after they were unable to enter the building.”

Another resident said the LASU graduate was walking along the street when he was struck by a bullet.

The victim was reportedly rushed to a nearby general hospital for treatment. Residents said he had recently graduated from LASU and was preparing for the National Youth Service Corps programme.

A police source said officers were deployed to the scene after the incident was reported and recovered spent bullet casings near the building.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, said she was not aware of the incident when contacted but promised to verify the report.
